Альтернативный модели САРМ (см. Модель ценообразования капитальных активов, САРМ) способ оценки активов, используемый при оптимизации инвестиционного портфеля (портфеля ценных бумаг компании). Это однофакторная или многофакторная модель, предполагающая оценивание некоторого числа различимых факторов риска (например, риски, связанные с нормой процента и темпами инфляции). Арбитражная теория исходит из того, что на рынке, где действуют рациональные инвесторы, не может долго сохраняться арбитражная ситуация, при которой возможно получение безрисковой прибыли на спекуляции с активами (напр., одновременная покупка какого-то актива по одной цене и продажа по другой). АРТ используется, в частности, в качестве одного из способов обоснования требуемого уровня доходности на собственный капитал при оценке эффективности инвестиционных проектов.
